Hip Hop Fish & Chicken: Reviews & Ratings
The restaurant is a hole-in-the-wall place, but if you’re looking for good authentic Thai and Laos food, it’s a good restaurant. Cash only.
During my travels in Thailand I would always order noodle soups at the small shops. Be it a mall in Bangkok or a small street vendor in Phuket, I was always craving the noodle soups. Here in the states most Thai restaurants serve the same stir fry or rice dishes. There are restaurants that serve noodle soups but they're a little more difficult to find. I've been looking for a place that offers both Boat Noodles and Tom Yum Noodles. I was delighted to find a hole in the wall spot in my area. It's a restaurant attached to a market. CASH ONLY! They do have an ATM in the building if you meed it. Employees all speak Thai and give a very authentic feel. They offer a wide variety of food but I only tried the Tom Yum Noodle Soup. Super tangy and spicy and filling. I sat there alone eating my hot bowl of soup surrounded by people speaking Thai. I felt a little lost and a little in awe. Brought me back to my travels. The market is also cash only. They have pre made Thai dessert there. A few snacks and spices and traditional tools used for cooking. I only had enough cash on me for my soup so I'll have to come back for some snacks from the market. Will definitely be back for the Boat Noodles and other dishes.
This is a cash only place but they do have an ATM for you can pull out cash. We were craving some Laos food and this place is so incredibly cheap. You can get three items for 10.99. The combinations are endless. There are so many vegetables and meat options. We got the three combo, it came with rice, curry, mint basil chicken and fried pork ribs. It was sooo good. The lady allowed us to eat first and then pay. I’d say my first initial reaction with her wasn’t pleasant. I had asked if the beef jerky being displayed was sweet or spicy which is a valid question because I’ve had sweet and spicy beef jerky even made from thai/lao people. She was confused by the answer and then gave a little attitude. I just brushed it off and ordered our food. I’d say the food needs to come with a little bit bigger rice portion but all the other meat portion is great. Would love to come back when I’m in the area. (Same review by me on Yelp)
I’ve been many many years ago when I lived in the area, I’m glad to see that it is still around. My mom moved close to here so we went after our Massage a few doors down to buy some groceries. The restaurant/deli area is air-conditioned with a glass door separating both, asking you to keep the door closed. The grocery area is natural air. The downside is that everything is cash only so we had to watch our dollars. Got a few fresh items and then dry items plus Thai brooms from the grocery store. Highly recommend that you take your own bags. Convenient parking right in the front of the rundown strip mall. Small specialty shop so you can find your favorite Thai items you may not be able to get at the mainstream Asian markets.
The express meal is absolutely worth it, such great value. We only sampled a few dishes, but what really won me over were the bamboo soup, the bitter leaf curry soup, and the fried mustard greens with egg. If these had been made to order, they would have been even better, since they weren’t served as hot as I prefer. While not the very best compared to homemade, they still hit the spot and brought back comforting memories of my mom’s home-cooked meals. For my son’s plate, he really enjoyed the pork stew and pork ribs but was meh on the fried beef.
Probably the best value for lunch anywhere in OC. 2 item Combo for $9.50 and 3 item combo for $10.50. They also have made to order dishes restaurant are very inexpensive and delicious.
The thai food here is so good and it's like home made. Place only takes cash and also has ATM inside incase u forgot cash. Waiters are so nice and go above and beyond to help u if u have any question about the food. They are also vegetarian friendly
New review: Always a 1000+/10 experience. This is the OG spot to get real amazing Thai food. Owned by Thai Laos and their entire family is incredibly sweet. They have my favorite dishes you literally can't get anywhere!!! My current go to is raw shrimp salad... Just AHHH-FREAKIN-MAZING! They also have really good lunch prices where if you just need a quick meal, they got you! Literally everything here is still reasonably priced despite the rising prices of everything. Love this place with all my heart and tummy!!! Old review: This is where my mom and my grandparents go. My grandparents used to go here long time ago years. This is the Thai place to get authentic groceries- fresh, frozen, packaged, you name it. I love the family that owns it they're so sweet. And did I mention next door has the best Thai food in Orange county!! I really love this place it's right down the street from the 91. I'll always come back to this place to feel like I'm back home!!!
